Ever since Molly was a puppy, she loved to give hugs said her owner Susan Watts. Today, she’s a certified Therapy Dog at North Central Baptist Hospital where she brings joy and comfort to sick patients, including children and their families. Prior to serving as a therapy dog for the hospital, Molly provided therapy at an elementary school in Floresville where she worked with children affected by the 2017 tragedy at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs in which 27 people were killed. “She made the kids so happy,” Watts said.
National Puppy Day provides the opportunity to recognize that a puppy can be destined for greatness as a therapy dog later in his/her adult years. There is no age or breed requirement. A positive temperament and good health make puppies good candidates for training early on for a career as a therapy dog.
